"Do I look like I give a flying (ALL CAPS) %$#& ! what you do with that space whale?"

 Lorca Death Glare

I love how Saru immediately shuts up and is like "okay okay I should perhaps be grateful he asks about the creature before he just orders us to go to warp and it ends up as a half-transported puddle on the floor of the shuttle bay"

Saru's lucky Lorca didn't decide he wanted to test the phasers.

Lorca has some nice little Lorca-esque moments last night, but...

***** SPOILER ******

I was more than a bit disappointed that he didn’t give Mudd a giant can of whoop a$$ for everything he put the ship and crew through.  His ‘punishment’ of remanding Mudd to his wife and in-laws felt more Kirk than Lorca.

I like Lorca because he ISN’T Kirk,  Picard, or Sisko...

See, Lorca would remand him to his father in-law's custody. But...

Lorca to father-in-law: (Handing him data clip)

FIL: What's this?

Lorca: Files from the Federation Department of Justice. Seems like Harry got himself in a spot of trouble even before he upset the Klingons, and he was pretty willing to name names. He even offered to work with 'em to get more. You might see some familiar ones there. One of 'em even looks like yours.

Lorca steps back to look fondly upon a slack-jawed Mudd:  Enjoy your family reunion, Harry.

(Beam out)

THAT'S a Lorca goodbye.

I'm not so sure this was the last time Lorca meets Mudd... I'm also not sure there was enough time for him to plan a lengthy goodbye. However... given the look on Lorca's face when Mudd tells him to remain behind on the bridge, I do think Lorca WISHED to be able to give Mudd an appropriate goodbye and was sufficiently annoyed that he had to play along with the whole "I am negotiating with a businessman" con. (AND it bothered him a GREAT deal that he had to mention his former ship and crew. Notice how he hesitates before he does so, it is causing him visible stress and and emotional pain.)

I do also wish he had simply shoved Mudd out of the next airlock, but then, the writers did maneuver themselves into a bit of a corner with the whole "Mudd obviously can't die since he has to appear on TOS" thing...

This.  So very much this.

I'm pretty sure Lorca WOULD have shoved him out of an airlock if it hadn't been a character who needed to live. This is why the ending seemed a little too "tame" by Lorca's usual standards, I guess. If Mudd had not been Mudd-Who-Needs-To-Meet-Kirk, I'm sure Lorca would have disposed of him.

Ditto.

By the end of that ep, I was favoring a continuity glitch big enough to accommodate Mudd’s untimely demise in one of the many manners he subjected Lorca to.

I just found amazing gifs of friendly Piranha!Lorca from the latest episode, so here you go:

Wait?

What?

Oh, someone wants to comment on Lorca's latest shenanigans.

tumblr_oko9afSnrH1tc03bwo1_400.gif

Sure... fine... whatever. :P

Oh, and... this is totally the face of an absolutely chill man who has absolutely no personal issues of any kind whatsoever.

One great little bit, one that I was actually compelled to mention on my blog, was when he put in the space-age eye drops just before the Klingon ship blew up.

I don’t know why, but I found that funny; like some crazed armageddon-monger who carefully puts on his sunglasses before he drops the nukes.

It’s so... Lorca.

There's no way he'd miss the Klingon-shattering kaboom. :)

As a fellow extreme light sensitivity person I can assure y’all that we do this all the time - inserting eye drops before important moments so that we don’t miss a second of them, I mean. It’s partly habit, partly excitement. ;)

It was the matter-of-fact way he did it that made me laugh; it was as if he was thinking, “Klingon fireball in three...two...one...” :giggle:

I’d have done it the same way. You learn to anticipate bright light, no matter the source. Being all like “this Klingon ship’s going down and Imma watch every second of it” is still very Lorca though, no doubt. Heh.

That’s what made me laugh.  Kirk or Picard would’ve probably turned away or held a hand over their eyes.

Not Lorca.  Even with his condition, he didn’t want to miss a single spark. :giggle:

Any guesses as to where Lorca's story will go in the new episode? I think that the Discovery may have jumped into the future, now taking place after Star Trek Nemesis and the mind meld future shown in Star Trek.

I prefer the theory one of our newer members posted; that it’s leaped into the ‘real’ Prime Timeline.

But to be honest?  I have no idea where they’ll go with it.

I've thought that it might do that, as well, if it's not in the prime timeline already. Another idea of mine, since it is titled "Despite Yourself", is that it is the mirror universe and will possibly have crew members seeing the mirror universe versions of themselves. Either way, it's great that the series is almost back.

I have a mighty need to talk about LEATHER LORCA. Because LEATHER LORCA.

*HNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG* Whoa, they really know how to please us Lorca fans. I'm sure the Discovery FB group I'm in is filled with Leather Lorca posts already (you just have to say the name "Lorca" in there and you immediately have everyone's attention). lol

My favorite moment was the one in which he learned that Tilly is the captain of the Mirror Discovery, though.

"That's absurd!"

HIS FACE :laugh::laugh::laugh:

And yeah, he's home now, what a coincidence that he went "missing" in the Mirror Universe along with Burnham, this explains pretty much everything, why he pretended to like her (he needs her to finish his little rebellion), etc, etc, whatever, I'm just sad that this really means he probably won't survive this season. *noooooo* Ah well it was fun while it lasted, and I hope they'll drag this one out until the last episode. Although somehow I suspect Burnham is on to him, the way she looked at him when she told him he went "missing" in the MU... ah well. We'll see.

OH AND MERKIN MADE ANOTHER APPEARANCE. *purr purr* I love how he just sat on the desk, listening to them talking about other universes and added his thoughts every once in a while. "purr purr"

I don’t see why he’d have to leave or be killed; only the Disco crew would (potentially) know that he’s not ‘their’ Lorca, and I think he might even win them over by then.

And since he (mirror-Lorca) was affiliated with the rebellion against the Terran Empire, that’d make him a ‘good’ bad guy (not to be so binary, but it’s quicker).   And yes, I definitely think that Burnham is on to him, and clearly Saru isn’t cut out to be captain (not yet, anyway) but that doesn’t necessarily mean they can’t have Lorca around for a lot longer.   Even if not a captain, there’s plenty of things he could do for the Federation (or Section 31?).

And yes, his mirror-self explanation also explains how he got so many of the little ‘trophies' in his man cave ahead of the ‘official’ first contacts in the prime timeline.

He wasn't involved in the rebellion against the Empire per se, I believe they said he was simply against the current leadership/the Emperor. He probably wanted to assume the position himself, he was captain of a Terran starship, and those do seem to have Emperor ambitions. His little overthrow plan just didn't really work out, which is why he resorted to going to the Prime Timeline and grab Prime Burnham since she's "presumed dead" in his timeline... and now he's exactly where he wants to be, with Burnham in the MU, who, after some more manipulation of the circumstances, will probably help him get close to the Emperor so that his assassination plan works out after all.

Sneaky Lorca is sneaky.

Well... a technical rebellion then.   If not a complete overthrow of the system, at least an assassination attempt.

And I still think he might be one of the more rational mirror universe inhabitants (like mirror-O’Brien or mirror-Spock).   Would love to see him stick around afterward though.

Loved his Scottish accent bit, too.  Great Lorca (and Jason Isaacs’) moment...
