Shatner: Nimoy faked wanting out of Trek for leverage

Classy, Bill.  Real classy...

Or it could’ve had something to do with Nimoy having endured a bitter lawsuit with Paramount over wrongful use of his image, and that he was still resentful over their treatment of him.  You know, like he’d said many times before his death.

Maybe Shatner was pulling such a stunt with his own ‘death’ in GEN, but it seems that interest in reviving Kirk wasn’t quite as strong.  In fact, Shatner had to do the deed himself with his trilogy of ghost-written books.   As far as the public was concerned?   Kirk was just dead.   Picard and the other ST series' crews were trekking along just fine without him...;)

Sometimes the man really makes it hard to like him.

Hear him tell it and Berman convinced him to do it by telling him, "It's Star Trek, death is never permanent" or some such. But, as he loves to go over his decades-long careeer, he should know Hollywood when he hears it and unless his cinematic resurrection was in writing, with new crews on the scene and then on the way, were going to make it...unlikely.

But I think this is Shatner really just...trying to take something away from the Spock lore because no one has ever clamored for his return in any capacity...and now he knows it's just never going to happen.

Maybe to ease his own guilty conscience over their falling out right before Nimoy’s death (?).  I smell motive...

That, too. He has to sully Nimoy in his own mind to make it easier to justify screwing him over.

Shatner has never been one for mea culpas.

He's senile.

He's self-important. He has been since he had no interest in befriending his cast mates.50 years ago.

He was self-important when he was line counting weekly so that he did better than Nimoy.

And he's self-important now when he trashes Nimoy to try to make Nimoy sound as self-important as he is.
