One of the things I love about this group; even when we disagree, we can do it in a civil way.

Disagreeing and bickering without giving up mutual respect and affection is a quality that easily gets lost on the internet these days... either it's troll vs. shitstorm, or peacy echo chamber.

Tranya for everybody! On the Omega Sector!

Real quick - I'm at work, but I'll be back to answer more fully when time allows - I heartily concur! Agreeing to disagree but wanting to know reasons why, find common ground and further illumination is the art of compromise, central to good democracries. It's an intellectual pursuit that no-one seems to bother with any more (certainly not in politics), which is maybe why the world is going to hell. Recrimination and soundbites are easier!

But OS proves the former isn't extinct. :thumbsup2:

Just finished the finale, and it was probably the best Who finale in years. It had everything, and I think it was a perfect ending for both Nardole and especially Bill. Moff slipped in a set up in the opening episode that turns out to be far more important than we realized, and it  was a perfect happy ending for her. Far better than the pointless resurrection and lack of gwnuine closure (I felt) Clara had. Bill's ending not only felt more earned, but it didn't feel like trying to get the sad death and the happy ending at the same time, her ending felt too much like having the cake and eating it too.

And the Doctor is dying, he is going to regenerate in the coming episode, but not without an adventure with his First Incarnation! What silly fun this show can always be.

So I loved it, and I can't wait to watch it again! What a fantastic season and a solid ending...can't wait to see it all wrap up at Christmas!

I was very tired and couldn't quite focus when I watched 10.12 "The Doctor Falls" last night, so I guess I should rewatch before I find an opinion on the episode as a whole. So just a few impressions:

Bill's solution felt a bit like "deus ex machina" to me, but maybe I missed something. But I'm glad she got a happy ending after all. I would have hated to see her dying.

Loved the scenes between Master and Missy. The Doctor fighting against his regeneration was really cool ... and the actor playing Hartnell's Doctor matched his voice very well, IMO. I'm curious to see how he'll be!

He’s David Bradley; the same actor who played William Hartnell in the 2013 BBC TV movie, “An Adventure in Time and Space” (the making of Doctor Who biopic).  He also starred in the Matt Smith episode, “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship."

Ah! Perhaps I should watch "An Adventure in Time and Space", to prepare for the Christmas special. :)

I guess I am in a minority here but I am glad this season of Doctor Who is over and I hope they do not bring back either of the companions.  To me this has been the worst season of the show since its modern incarnation.  Almost every episode was boring to me.  Kind of been there, done that.  I also never warmed to the character of Bill.  She was always annoying to me - like the too bright 10 year old who understands just enough to be dangerous.  But hey, that is just my opinion - that and sixty cents will buy you a soft drink.

I do hate to see Peter Capaldi leave but maybe this will be a restart for the series with a new Doctor and companion.  This is the first season since the revival that I don't know if I will buy the DVD collection - to me it was just that bad.

Weird! I loved it, a great year, much like Series 9, and in some ways it might be better to me. Even the lesser episodes were more entertaining to me than the stinker that was "Sleep No More," and unlike Series 9, it had a more satisfying conclusion in my view. But I also loved Bill, thought she was exactly the shot in the arm the show needed post-Clara. She was just different and new enough to play with the show and the character chemistry to NOT make it fee been there and done that.

I understand where you are coming from, although I enjoyed the season (a bit less than the last two seasons, though).

I too felt much of the season was 'recycling', a kind of "best of medley" remix of elements we have seen before.

But I really liked Bill and felt many episodes were well made, despite not being original (guess I enjoyed it like a real good cover band that adds a new sound to old songs, to stay with that analogy ).

In retrospect, "Oxygen" was the highlight of the season for me. It was gripping, had an interesting message and was generally fresh overall.

I loved Bill, but there were quite a few bumps in the road this season.  There were a few that felt like rehashes, but Bill kept it fresh for me; as did Capaldi's increasing strength in the role.  I am now (officially) sad to see him go at year's end.

Two that really stood out for me personally were "Oxygen" (this year's best IMO) and, I know this one isn't universally loved but "Empress of Mars."  It had a slightly goofy, old-school DW charm (the Alpha Centaurians were the icing on the cake) combined with a terrific HG Wells' "First Men on the Moon"-feel to it.  It's appeal to me was innately personal, and I don't expect it to turn up on anyone else's list.

My best for the year is probably "Oxygen" but I would rank the Monks Trilogy and the two part finale up there as well. So my list seems a bit crowded right now, I really enjoyed this year. I will probably narrow things down upon a revisit.

Apparently there is more of the original console room in the Christmas special, so looking forward to that

Here in the UK they are saying it would have been received much better if John Sim and David Bradley had not been announced before hand.

Maybe as a result keep the 13th Doctor under wraps

Simm I don't think was plannedC but the leak was coming so they got ahead of it. And technically they never officially announced Bradley, it just did get leaked. But that it the battle they are forced to endlessly fight. People complain that they announce stuff, but the leaking happens at any rate, and the info gets out there, and then people who crave the leaking complain that they wish they wouldn't just ruin it by telling us.

Who should be the next Who?

For anyone who might wanna take the poll.

I'm very curious who's going to be the next Who... but I don't want to take the poll. I don't feel like speculating. Part of the fun is being surprised. :)

Ok... to do you a favor, I'd name Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. They both would imo make really cool Doctors.

But to be fair, I don't know many of the others on the list that well.

The guy who played Moriarty on Sherlock was great in that role, but I can't quite imagine him as the Doctor. And Natalia Tena somehow doesn't appear enough "character faced" to me, if that makes sense.

I don't even watch Who with any regularity, but I think I would for Tilda.

She's really kind of next level.

She would be the most ‘alien’ Doctor ever, I think...
