The Horta in the mirror universe

What do we suppose became of the Horta on Janus VI in the mirror universe? I can't really see mirror-Kirk being so merciful, but if he killed it, that would have meant the loss of the mining colony too.

Maybe the Empire vaporized the colony site (killing the Horta), employed disposable slave labor to retrieve any remaining pergium and looked for another source of the mineral, maybe a source deep in an inhabited system that would've been off-limits to the more benign, non-interfering Federation (?).

They're dead.

They stood in the way of one of the greatest mining finds of the century. There's no way anyone cared enough about the what and why of them to let them impede the progress of an Empire that could only survive and continue to through conquest.

Would the miners admit that they were having problems? The most likely response would be to force them down there anyway and just bring in new slaves. If the miners were forced to solve their own problems and weren't allowed to call for help and didn't have the resources to kill the Horta, maybe they would have found a way to talk. Of course, a bunch more people would have died first.

Kirk would have killed the Horta for sure. As for the colony itself....the device the Horta stole was only a short distance away down the tunnel. Once they'd taken care of the Horta, Kirk and Spock could easily have gone down it and found the device and the nest. This would then confirm Spock's suspicions that the silicon spheres were Horta eggs, so it's likely Kirk would have ordered them all destroyed.

I also wonder if Kirk would have had the colony supervisor executed for destroying the eggs in the first place and thereby endangering the colony, disrupting mining and causing unnecessary deaths. Thoughts?

What I never quite grasped was that the Horta knew what the device was and where it was in order to strike with precision and take the ONE piece of equipment the colony needed to continue functioning.

Why not simply melt the damn thing? Problem solved, or at least delayed enough while they try to get in with new equipment...maybe even long enough for her babies to hatch, grow, and know how to defend their home.
