I'm going to break my own rule for a moment... this is what my genre list would look like today, when I include shows that are still running:

1. The X-Files (1993-2002, 2016, FOX)

2. Game of Thrones (2011-..., HBO)

3. Doctor Who (1963-1989, 1996, 2005-..., BBC)

4. The Man in the High Castle (2015-..., Amazon)

5. The Twilight Zone (1959-1964, CBS)

6. Millennium (1996-1999, FOX)

7. Battlestar Galactica (2003-2009, SciFi)

8. The Tripods (1984-1985, BBC)

9. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003, WB)

10. Belphégor (French mystery, 1965)

11. The Prisoner (1967-1968, ITV)

12. The Walking Dead (2010-..., AMC)

(13. True Blood (2008-2014, HBO) )

Guess "Game of Thrones", which is nearly finished (only 2 more half-seasons coming) and "Doctor Who" have rather safe spots... but it remains to be seen how "The Man in the High Castle" will develop in the future, especially after Frank Spotnitz left (the first two seasons were outstanding, though, IMO).

I'm undecided on "The Walking Dead", maybe the show will surprise me after all, by becoming more interesting again. You never know.

When I include shows that are still running in my non-genre list, it would look like that:

1. Six Feet Under (2001-2005, HBO)

2. Breaking Bad (2008-2013, AMC)

3. Better Call Saul (2015-..., AMC)

4. The Sopranos (1999-2007, HBO)

5. The Wire (2002-2008, HBO)

6. Liebling Kreuzberg (German law dramedy, 1986-1998, ARD)

7. Cracker (the UK original, 1993-1995, ITV)

8. Sherlock (2010-..., BBC)

9. Dexter (2006-2013, Showtime)

10. House of Cards (2013-..., Netflix)

Though I'm not sure I should consider "Sherlock" a genre show or not... but since it technically does not contain "supernatural", fantastic elements, I include it in the non-genre list. :)

"Goliath" so far consists of one season only, and appears more like a miniseries than a longer series to me, but since there are rumors about a continuation, maybe I should at least mention it here, too.

"House of Cards" was really outstanding during the first two seasons IMO, and might have easily taken a spot among the top-5 ... but since it radically decreased in quality in seasons 3 and 4, it dropped quite a bit. Still I consider it a decent, worthwhile show, even if it's no longer top-level.

If I add anthology shows, where each season has a different cast and tells a different story, I guess I'd include "True Detective" and "Fargo", too.
