RIP Gareth Thomas - Blakes' 7

Recommended Posts

Star of British cult TV show, Blakes' 7 has died. Blakes' 7 was the brainchild of Doctor Who's creator of the Daleks, Terry Nation and was sort of an 'adult,' harder SF answer to that venerable BBC institution. It ran for four series between 1978 - 1981. It looks very shaky by today's standards, but those were great stories and great characters and Thomas was at the center of all of them, even if he wasn't in every episode.

A sad loss.

Sad indeed. I think it was a poor choice for him, however, to leave the show the way he did after just two years, even though his leaving really brought the character of Avon  into it's own.

I've only seen a couple of B7s (it never really ran steadily here in the States sadly; we were lucky to get Space 1999, Thunderbirds and Doctor Who), but I always wished I had.    Seemed like a show ahead of its time in many ways; and now "Blake" is really gone...

RIP, Gareth Thomas.
