Jennifer Lien Arrested Today

Jennifer LIen arrested today !

ARRIMAN (WATE) – A woman who played the medical assistant in the first three season of Star Trek: Voyager was arrested for indecent exposure.

Jennifer Ann Lien, 41, was arrested at her home in Harriman on September 3 at around 6:42 p.m. Deputies said Lien had an active warrant in Roane County on two counts of exposing herself to a child under the age of 13.

Roane County Sheriff’s Office was initially delivering a Detainer Summons. When they visited Lien’s house, her front door was open. After knocking on the door, she yelled at deputies to come in.

Deputies said Lien was naked on her couch, covered by a blanket. She told the deputies she was expecting them.

Then dispatch told the deputies that Lien had an active warrant from the Harriman City Police Department. When they told her about the warrant, she said they needed to leave her alone, saying she wasn’t going any (expletive) where.

The two deputies repeatedly asked Lien to put on clothes, eventually calling for a female deputy. They said Lien told them she would have all of them shot and killed.

Eventually, deputies said the put Lien in handcuffs, putting a shirt and pants from the jail on her. They said she refused to walk to the patrol car and they had to carry her to the car, before driving to the Roane County Detention Center. Lien’s bond was set at $2,500.

I'm truly shocked (!).

I'm guessing she's got a severe drug problem.  If that is the case?  I hope she gets the help she needs, but what she is alleged to have done is revolting and she needs to accept punishment if she is convicted.  That's quite a rap sheet she's got, too.

Good grief!  That's really surprising.  I hope whatever's going on with her gets solved.

She looks so very sweet, but this is another example of why we shouldn't judge people by their appearance -- what's on the outside sure doesn't tell us much about what's on the inside.

Wow, she looks...rough in that mugshot.  This actually leads me to question the reason she was let go from Voyager...was it because she was difficult to deal with behind the scenes? That's just speculation of course.   But she clearly has something wrong with her now, whether it be drugs or some kind of mental illness.  Seriously messed up crime here.

If the allegations are proven, she will have to be registered as a sex offender.   It's even more complicated, as she has a kid herself.   This is truly horrible.   At any rate, guilty or not, I hope she gets treatment as well.   She is clearly ill and possibly has an addiction of some sort.

I don't remember hearing any of the cast complain about her. IIRC Mulgrew was upset that she had to leave the show. It's sad to hear that her health has deteriorated like this.

She doesn't look the same to me either. If I didn't know the name I'd never have guessed. I think Kes had some potential but after a time they ran out of ideas for her. I think if Jennifer was a problem herself they wouldn't have brought her back a few years later. I expect we'll hear from some of the cast in the coming days (wonder if Wang is already calling up shows reminding them he worked with her LOL).

I guess that's true, why would they have brought her back.  Just a shame that this is what her life is like now.

This.

I feel pity for her, not anger or anything else.  Yes, if the allegation is true she should be punished for the offense, but I also hope she takes that as a cue to clean up her life and get help.  All the best to her husband and child as well...

This is rough. We tend to see our stars as fixed; remember them as the last time we saw them onscreen as the characters they played. Sometimes we forget time moves on for the person who played the part, and they don't always move onwards and upward. Whatever the real story is behind this bizarre behavior, I hope things improve for Jennifer and for all who were involved in this incident.

Tom Hardy blames the box office failure of Nemesis for his spiral into depression, alcoholism and drug addiction. I wonder if she'll blame this on being fired from Voyager?

Wow, when I clicked on the story, I didn't even recognize her in that mug shot. She looks completely different, and not really in a good way. I definitely hope she gets the help she needs.

I knew Hardy had addiction issues early in his career, but I didn't know he blamed it on NEM... wow.

Well, he certainly bounced back in a major way, didn't he? ;)

Here's hoping Lien gets help.   This situation of hers has many victims; not just the children allegedly involved, but also her own family (she has a husband and child of her own).

Okay, this may be a cultural problem, but it shows me a again what a fucked up prudish place America is -- showing your boobs, NOT in a context of sexual abuse, is considered an offense? WTF?

Obviously, Lien is confused and does need help, but heck, it's totally sick HIDING female breasts from underage children. How can they ever develop a normal and healthy sexuality when they are taught natural parts of the body are somehow "dirty"? It's just that kind of prudishness that raises sexual offenders. It's something that would be laughed off over here, along the lines of "that woman is crazy, don't take her seriously".

Okay, domestic disturbance or unlawful entry is a different matter and warrants calling the police -- but why the heck is making anybody buzz over the fact that children below the age of 12 saw female breasts?!

America's prudishness is so totally fucked up, I don't even have words for it. On the other side, America has no problem giving guns to kids and showing hard voilence on tv in the children's program.

He actually blamed himself for the failure for a while. There are a lot of things wrong with that film, but his performance isn't one of them.

I agree in principle that there's nothing wrong with a naked body and that, in and of itself, isn't cause to arrest someone. The problem is context. In this case though I certainly think an indecent exposure charge is warranted. It's not as if she was quietly sunbathing on her property and people flipped out.

The nudity in this case is part of a screaming psychotic break, and < I > would probably be traumatized by it, much less a kid, so indecent exposure it is.

Agreed, but it were not the boobs that were the problem here, but the context, as you say. If she had displayed the same behavior without raising the shirt, it would have been the same.

Yet it looks like the sites reporting about it focus on this aspect in a totally warped fashion. Reminds me of that "nipple slip" "scandal" a while ago. Seriously, there are only two countries in the world that are showing life footage of sport events a couple of minutes later, to cut out potential streakers: Iran and the USA.

And this in an day and age when most kids watch hardcore porn on daddy's computer at some point, when the parents aren't looking. Pretending sexuality never existed and making it a taboo until the teenage kid is pregnant is certainly not a good way to deal with the topic for a culture as a whole. IMO.

We're not all like this, Sim.  America is a very large country, in both land area and population, and there are millions of people here who think the rules here are just as fucked up as you think they are.

And especially breasts.  I mean what are the damned things for, anyway?  They're for FEEDING CHILDREN WITH.  So to say that the sight of them somehow traumatizes children ... I've never understood how anybody justifies the idea that children are damaged by the sight of breasts.

Plus, the whole idea that watching people murder each other or beat each other up is okay -- you can show it on TV at any hour -- but watching people make love is filthy ... my mind boggles at the mere thought, and I grew up here!

There's a computer game -- an RPG -- called The Witcher that I made a lot of mods for, at a time when the game was far better known in Germany than it was in the US.  The main character is a professional monster slayer who's also very fond of the ladies, and the game was known for giving the player a picture of a semi-nude woman (called a "sex card") whenever the main character had sex with someone.

I made some new adventures for the game, and people said, "The person who made this adventure claims to be a middle-aged American woman, but a middle-aged American woman would never make an adventure where the player can get SIX sex cards!  Americans are all prudes."  No, we're really not.  Yes, a lot of Americans are prudes -- Europe exported many of her religious wackos to our shores, and we've still got 'em :P -- but there's a much, much wider range of opinions among individual Americans than most Europeans realize.  I really AM a middle-aged American woman, and I really DID make a new adventure for The Witcher with six sex cards in it.  Because we're a lot more varied over here than most people realize. ;)

It's salacious. It sells. It's that simple.

I completely agree. The prevalent notion here is that sex is supposed to be hidden and you're not to even have a sexual thought until you're married, but then you're supposed to have a healthy view of it and have a great sexual life. It can't work that way.

Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to come across as bashing your country too much. I'm well aware that America is very diverse, also when it comes to this topic. :)

After all, you are a country that produces cable shows that celebrate sexuality in a manner even many people over here consider pretty extreme. ;)

My best female friend's boyfriend is from LA in California, and he's "no child of sadness", as we say here.

If you think that the United States has several social and sexual behaviour problems, I invite you to my country, Brazil. We are the biggest third world representation of a society with huge social and sexual problems, no kidding.
