Planning on buying a house, and recently decided that when I do, I will be purchasing the poster for Search for Spock (it was between that and the Motion Picture). I enjoy the artwork the most for those two movies. I was curious to see how others rated the posters, disregarding the movies they represent and just looking at the posters for each movie. What is you favorite, what do you think is the worst? Just curious how others might rank them.

My personal favorites are the Search for Spock (Something about that blue and pink Spock painting I just really love), the Motion Picture's poster is pretty great, I also like the artwork for the Final Frontier (even if it is possibly my least favorite movie). The posters I don't like Star Trek Nemesis, and the two Abrams movies, which all rely a little too much on standard photoshop poster tropes. I do like the orriginal blue and Gold teaser poster for 2009's film though.

So anybody else have thoughts on the film posters? Any you like, any you think look terrible? Just something I've been thinking about lately.

Good topic.

I like this poster for "The Undiscovered Country" best; it feels very epic.

Also a big fan of the "First Contact" poster....

These are, of course, the US release posters; every country had their own variations and styles.

This would also be an interesting opportunity for our members all over the world to post their favorite posters from their native countries...

My favourite growing up was Star Trek IV, chiefly the one of the Bird of Prey diving behind the Golden Gate Bridge (the 1986 bridge even). Star Trek VI with the Holy Trinity I quite liked though as seen in the expanded soundtrack liners, the one with the 'rest' Chekov, Sulu, Scotty and Uhura was quite fetching.

Otherwise maybe only Star Trek III was one I quite liked. With the outline of Spock's face and the Enterprise and Bird of Prey facing off.

My favorite First Contact "poster" is probably the lenticular version that was on my VHS, which went from the original, to the borgified Picard/Skin Removed Data version.

I always liked the "Undiscovered Country" teaser poster, with the Enterprise-A facing a horizon, and a klingon face beneath it, facing up. I saw it so often that I was surprised as a child that, it wasn't the image used on the VHS...but I liked that image too.

The last movie to have a good cover was First Contact. ST09 had the worst, unimaginative cover.

My favorite poster will always be STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE because it was my first view of Star Trek and I was in completely awe by the experience.

The teaser poster, which was published in Marvel Comics magazines like Iron Man, X-Men and so forth, was also a blast !

For TNG, I love the GENERATIONS poster.

Most of ST09 and STID's posters do feel unimaginitve and a little too reliant on photoshop for my tastes, I like a good old fashioned painted poster myself, though there are always exceptions. I did like ST09's Black and White poster with the Enterprise Zooming off. I would actually say that I like the art for the Insurrection poster. It's another that I've always liked the promotion art better than the movie itself.

I'd almost forgotten this one; and yes, it is one of my favorites too. You can't go wrong with the late Bob McCall; he was the Chesley Bonestell of the '60s and '70s.

The Undiscovered country poster is really cool! I can really see that weird cat lasy being a selling point in Japan, based on what I've seen of their entertainment. That is a decent Kahn poster, unlike it's US poster it at least shows the Reliant facing off with the Enterprise as opposed to Regula 1.

I don't think there has been any poster or art I've seen for Search for Spock I didn't like. Also that is probably my second favorite score, just behind the Motion Picture.

Apparently, this is an alternate poster image created for Paramount's Star Trek The Motion Picture campaign, painted by the incredible Bob Peak.

The first three are amazing! Beautiful '70s/'80s style artwork.

Maybe not quite informative enough for a central advertising campaign, but very intriguing.

That last one... er, not so much. An 8 year old with Photoshop could probably do something better. And the 'big beam-up hug' gives a misleading impression the film is a romantic comedy.

I really love the color palette of the GEN poster (and not just because I love the movie, either); it's a beautiful piece of artwork...

They used the GENERATIONS poster as a blueprint for the first two Shatner STAR TREK novels : THE ASHES OF EDEN amd THE RETURN. YOu gotta love it.

Bob Peak's work on Star Trek posters, used and unused, are always cool. I wish pained posters were still used to advertise any films made today. For Comic book movies Marvel would really benefit some classy painted promotional artwork, have you seen the hacky photoshop posters they release? You'd think making billions of dollars they could spend more than just one guy spending an hour on photoshop cramming as many characters onto a one-sheet as possible.

I don't think there is a single poster from Into Darkness I like. Bad photoshop, or just an action shot of a character with sparks overlayed on them. Awful. At least 2009 had the neat black and white image of the Enterprise zooming, or the early teaser with the Emblem with the Gold & Blue.

I always liked that First Contact poster with the E racing past the Cube. It is another thing I like, simplicity...economy in the art to sell the movie. That said there are some minimalist fan posters that are a little too far for my tastes, like this:

ST-1.jpg

That's too stark IMO.

I love this variant, with the assimilated Earth; very cool!

And this:

1601305_745638215454309_687584459_n.jpg?

I went to that! The one they had in my area, anyway.

My only nits about that night were that the digital projection was set way too dark; it looked like we were watching with sunglasses on.

And secondly, some blowhard behind us kept talking through the whole first 15 minutes or so. Finally, I literally stood up, faced him and shushed him; that was the end of that. But what a pig...
