What if you had to squeeze the best of TNG into one season?

Say, for someone new to the show, you had to have the best of the best of the show boiled down to 26-episodes. But you could have one major loophole, in that 2-parters could count as one "episode." I know that's a major cheat, but....Anyway, even though it's quite flawed it seems essential to start with Encounter at Farpoint in order to end up with All Good Things. If that's two right there, what other 24 episodes would you put in-between, to as much as possible provide story arcs that make sense?

For me? In some kind of approximate 'favorites' order (but not necessarily so).

And I know this order wouldn't make any kind of narrative sense, but as Woody Allen might say, "The heart wants what it wants..."

These are just 26 of my favorites I would love to 'buy' as a single, kick-ass season:

1. Inner Light

2. Darmok

3. Best of Both Worlds

4. Yesterday's Enterprise

5. Chain of Command

6. Family

7. Sarek

8. Unification

9. Relics

10. All Good Things

11. Face of the Enemy

12. The Enemy

13. The Defector

14. Q Who?

15. Who Watches the Watchers?

16. Conspiracy

17. Measure of a Man

18. Matter of Honor

19. Sins of the Father

20. Where Silence Has Lease

21. Drumhead

22. Tapestry

23. I, Borg

24. Frame of Mind

25. Rightful Heir

26. 11001010

If someone wants to put these in a narrative order? Be my guest...

Thanks.

Sorry they're not in a narrative order, but some of those I haven't seen in many years, and I can't exactly remember how they fit into the overall story.

Besides, TNG is more or less episodic anyway, for the most part.

Good list, but I would try to fit in Parallels too for its interesting concept.

If it wasn't centered on Worf it might've cracked my top 26.... :P

I keeeed.

Actually "Parallels" is a favorite of mine; maybe if I could've listed 30 episodes. As my list is? I can't think of one I'ddemote, really. Maybe "11001001."

I haven't seen the whole of TNG yet, but I can name some of the episodes I would have in a 'greatest hits' season. No order:

The Measure of a Man

The First Duty

The Wounded

Ensign Ro

Second Chances

Hollow Pursuits

Rightful Heir

Data's Day

Might go with Sarek too.

The Measure of a Man, I realised recently, is probably one of my most-watched episodes of any iteration of Star Trek. It's dated, in the sense that some of our tech has already outstripped it, but it's timeless in its themes. It's a superb piece of writing, and all cast members absolutely rise to the drama of it. Any list I make will probably be built around that episode.

#17 on my list...

And that list is in no particular order, because this is one of my favorite episodes of all time; the extended version is an even richer experience (finally bought S2 on blu ray a few months ago).  S2 had quite a few gems; that was an interesting and experimental time for the show.

Well let's see -

The obvious ones:

"Best of Both Worlds Parts I and II" (that counts as two)

"Darmok"

"The Inner Light"

"Tapestry"

"Q Who"

"The Measure of a Man"

"Yesterday's Enterprise"

"Ensign Ro"

"Cause and Effect"

"Lower Decks"

"All Good Things..." (another double)

Ones that I hold in High Regard:

"Chain of Command Parts I and II"

"The First Duty"

"The Drumhead"

"Relics"

"Timescape"

"The Enemy"

"The Defector"

"The Nth Degree"

Ones that people might disagree with me on:

"Remember Me" - yes Wesley has a big role in it, however this wasn't his annoying 1st-season self. One of his better ones, and thought-provoking

"The Arsenal of Freedom" - I have a soft spot for this first season episode.

"The Quality of Life" - interesting how Data perceives the exocomps as sentient beings with a right to choose - echoing "The Measure of a Man"

"Tin Man" - diasgree all you want with me on this one - but I can relate to Tam Elburn in this episode.
