  2. Just a small update for anyone interested: I'm now a student of philosophy :) , I didn't get into med school ( thought it is still a probable future endevour ), but I'm pretty happy with what I got.

I thought I could share since I mentioned wanting to go to med school here some years ago.

  3. Loving the new visuals!!

Good to 'see' you again, Garak.  Now where's my jacket?  Hehe...:giggle:

  4. Just finished my third time watching ST Beyond, and I dragged more 3 friends with me this time. Talk about helping the Box Office. lol

    1. Sehlat Vie

And it got a hell of a boost in international ticket sales, too!

Turns out foreign markets have helped to make it a modest hit (gee... you think maybe they could've done this a couple months ago?? :loopy:).

And yes, I'm sure you personally had a lot to do with your own country's ticket sales, Garak.  ;)

  5. In Beyond's defense: I wathed it with a friend of mine who has never seen Star Trej, and did not like both first JJ movies. She loved Beyond, and loved that Sulu was represented as a gay character, the scene where he is on the starbase with his family really got her to the core of what ST means. So, to the people saying Beyond did not do well on the box office because it was a "2 hour TOS episode", I don't believe that's the reason.

I just think summer's not the place for it unless it can get a good two weeks to itself to build some momentum...and that's hard to do when Captain Kirk has to deal with the likes of Tony Stark. :)

I have a dream... That one day people will prefer watching movies about a future with no poverty or prejudice, where we explore the universe rather than movies about people fighting each other on this pale blue dot. No ofense to Marvel movies, I watch them too, and like them pretty much, I just think the world should have other priorities right now, especially in the mess the world has become in these last few years. It's time for us to start dreaming again... We need it more now than ever.

    3. prometheus59650

      prometheus59650

It's a good dream to have. But it's one that's hard to latch onto in this day and age.

Humans put a man on the moon in ten years. Americans cut our poverty rate in half in a decade once. there's so much we all can do if we have the dream and the will. But we've all kind of lost both somewhere along the way.

I hope we can find our collective way back to it.

  6. If everything works out well, I should be watching Beyond on the big screen my second time tomorow!

      Same.

I don't think 3D adds anything in 99% of cases, (Avatar being the last thing I saw where I thought the 3D mattered one bit)

But 3D is my only option here, so 3D it is.

And yes, I have to keep doing my bit to make Beyond profitable because, gosh darn it, it's good, and it genuinely deserves better than it's getting. :)

Garak, I suspect it'll be out of Brazil before you ever got a 2D option. Paramount just needs that extra box office from a 3D upsell.

Well then, I guess it's 3D again. Still fun to watch

  7. I just managed to hype my philosophy teacher well enough for him to agree watching Beyond. He's a Star Trek fan, but did not like the new movies. Here's hoping this one will change his mind.

  9. I was just now listening to "Night on the Yorktown", it took me some time to realize there ware tears on my eyes.

    1. prometheus59650

It really is lovely and it carries the entire docking scene nicely.

Things like that make it impossible to understand the likes of Berman. How does one think of a score as wallpaper not meant to "intrude." on the film. Indeed, it LIFTS a film. Jerry Goldsmith's TMP score literally raises the quality of the film.

His son Joel, also sadly passed did a lot of work for SG-1 and the subsequent shows and he honestly always treated them like film scores, and you can hear that.

Scores are not wallpaper and were never meant to be.

  10. I HAVE WATCHED STAR TREK BEYOND. IT IS AMAZING.

Regardless of my liking, I still want ST 4 to be made, so count on me! I will watch it untill I know every single sentence of every single scene by memory.

  12. The music from ST Generations is so incredible... It always touches me. Say what you want about this movie, but the message it carries is timeless! This music always reminds me that time is not a predator, but a companion to the journey, and that I must live the moment now, for the now will never come back again...

I love it too!  It's a gorgeous score.  Love the Nexus theme, Picard's Christmas sequence and the end title music.  Also love the bold surge of the Alexander Courage TOS theme during the Ent-B launch.

I make no apologies for my love of this (admittedly flawed) movie.

    3. Tupperfan

      Tupperfan

The movie has deep flaws (the second half of the movie has so many plot holes it's ridiculous), but is still eminently watchable. Its score, though, is at the very top. It's difficult to state a favourite one, because many have their strength and bring back different memories in me, but it is really good!

I got the chance to hear Dennis McCarthy conduct his GEN end title theme live in Los Angeles on April 1st, and so help me, I almost wept it was so awesome.

  13. RIP Barry Jenner... The best admiral Starfleet ever had...

  14. Just listened to some bits of the Beyond soundtrack. Holly crap, it's amazing!!!

      The entire score is stellar.

      It shall not disappoint you.

It's the best score Giacchino has produced yet.  I think he keeps getting better and better.  The first time I heard the 2009 score, I didn't think it totally worked.  Then I heard it again, and it grew on me.  The score for STID is one of the few good things about that picture...but Beyond's score is about the best he has offered up yet, and I think they'd be crazy not to keep bringing him back.

  15. Rewatching STID right now. Guilty as charged.

To be honest I think I've seen ID more than most around :giggle: No matter what you guys say, no one will ever take ot the feeling I had when first watching the Enterprise coming out of the cloudy skies on the big screen, that night some years ago. Man was I exited.

  16. I'm trying to change my profile picture, but it keeps saying the size is too high, even though i've uploaded pictures of the same size ( including this one ) before... Any ideas on what's going on?

    1. Mr.Picard

      Mr.Picard

Is it a jpg? Try jpg format. It'll blur the pic if you're unlucky but it's usually small enough file size-wise. I have trouble with picture size as well sometimes, I've had to really tweak things with the PNG format, re-sizing on a pixel level etc just to match the file size requirements.

I will try that! Thanks :)

I agree with Garak; it sucks.   They renewed Agents of SHIELD (for a 4th year) but nixed a far superior series IMO...

  20. Ok, finally started a full, realistic, and right drawing of our dear agent Peggy Carter! As soon as finish I'll post here. That is, if i don't stumble on something that makes me need some help. ;)

  21. No Oscars for Star Wars? You kidding me? How in the world can a Star Wars movie lost a special effects nomination? It just can't happen.

      kenman

I dunno, there were some great special effects in the Force Awakens....but there were things like Maz's (spelling?) motion capture that just looked fake and didn't gel with the rest of the movie. MoCap has come a long way (just look at Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) but I thought the MoCap work was a little iffy in TFA. Didn't hinder my enjoyment that much, but I would cite her as a reason, maybe, that Star Wars wasn't necesarrily robbed, so much as just looked over because it didn't realy look like it did anything special.

    3. Sehlat Vie

      Sehlat Vie

But that was the illusion of TFA; the practical FX blended seamlessly with the live action.  My eyes could not tell where the practical BB-8 ended and the CGI version began.  Not to mention that it used a full battery of FX; models, CGI, etc.  all blended perfectly.

Yes, Ex Machina had some terrific motion capture, and the surreal FX of the androids' hard-edged 'flesh' borders were well-done, but there wasn't much else to it, really.

    4. kenman

      kenman

Well, as I was just saying...I didn't feel they were ALL blended perfectly. Maz looked fake and out of place to me. There was some other CG characters or creatures that I remember just looking fake, and not as naturally blended. Not everything, just a few things. Obviously this is just opinion. The movie looked good...but I would say that it wasn't perfect. But again...this is the problem with awards, what is essentially opinion becomes opinion with a trophy.

  22. My god. What in the world is this? Seriously, that's the third time a girl brakes my heart again. It's almost like someone is actually writing this down to laugh at me. This is ridiculous. Sorry bother you guys with more of my whining, I just had to share this with someone. I guess it makes me feel less lonely.

No, but seriously, what the hell? I'm few years from 20 and haven't got even ONE good match. Not even one kiss!  This is embarassing...

Guess someone will be watching some Odomustsuffer episodes tonight.
