  1. Three Job Interviews this week! Maybe the unbearable unemployment period will come to an end finally.

      Fingers crossed!

Since I wrote this I have completed one of these interviews and added another! I have a marathon day of 3 interviews today!

  2. Another exhaustive revamp seemingly complete!  Doctor Who Review site is all done, with better organizations for find stories of each Doctor and seasons and spin-off series....I'm spent!

  3. After some exhaustive revamp work, my Trek Review blog is completely updated in it's look!  And all current episodes reviewed!  Very pleased with the new look, and it is far better organized in terms of finding old reviews too! If only I didn't have to still do a ton of work to make the Doctor Who site just as fixed up!

  4. Just spent the evening revamping my Review Blogs...looking a little less dated and a tad sharper!

  5. I know few will care, but my favorite baseball team just set an all time MLB record for longest winning streak (without a tie)...and man what a team they currently are!

    1. Tupperfan

      Tupperfan

I do care, and if that 1916 Giants tie* is a weird one - and the Indians couldn't actually break the official record - it doesn't take away anything as it is an impressive feat and they are quite the team indeed!

Now if my Expos could come back...

It was a fun ride to watch! And even though the streak ended...the have (so far) not lost again since. They are just playing great baseball. And a good chunk of the core players are homegrown through our farm system. That is harder to do than buying up the best talent like Some teams can afford to do. Now if they could just win a World Series in my lifetime...I have been waiting since 1995 for them to seal the deal.

  6. Well last night the second daughter decided to finally arrive!

Congrats Dad.  How old is #1?  Watching our two grow and evolve with almost 5 years between them was an adventure.

Oldest is 3 right now. Good times ahead!

  7. Even if it comes to nothing it is nice to have a former employer reach out and ask if you might be interested in returning. Just nice to be remembered and missed. See where this leads...

Oh man...I talked to him, and it sounds like since I left, they've made an even bigger mess of the place.  Long time employees have left and moved on, and they just have a revolving door of temps doing my former job, and the reason he reached out is because he just wants someone he knows wont be horrible...but its a temp gig, so I passed as my current gig is temporary (9 mos out of the year...unless I get the nod this year, as there is an opening to be full time).  But man...honestly talking with him just made me glad I moved on when I did.  I thought they treated me bad when I was there, sounds like it just got worse and worse.

      Yikes!  Indeed, it does.  :(

Its still nice to remembered for good work, but a shame the place seems to have fallen apart internally. Despite my issues that lead to my leaving, I used to like working there. But now it seems like there is nobody really working there. Would be a real bore now.

  8. Discovery Trailer not bad! Looks like it could be a solid and entertaining new Trek show for the modern audience. Continuity be damned!

    1. Sehlat Vie

      Sehlat Vie

ST's previous continuity was wildly inconsistent anyway.

  9. Crazy news day at work...some deranged guy in Cleveland (where I am) decided that the best plan for getting his ex back (or something) was to just murder a stranger and stream it live on Facebook. Ugh.

It's all over national news too!  That was one of the most horrible things I've seen on the news; that old man's fear and confusion just broke my heart.  I understand the police dragnet is crossing several states now, including New York.  Hope they catch this bastard.

    3. kenman

      kenman

Yea its crazy...I saw the raw unedited footage of the murder...I came in and we were recording it, not entirely sure what happened...and then it just...happens. It's horrifying...and it was close to home. Needless to say, I decided against leaving the building for lunch last night!

    4. Sehlat Vie

      Sehlat Vie

The image of the victim's face haunted me.  That poor man's face... so scared and unsure of what was happening.  Just profoundly horrifying.   Certain news stories really impact me; this one was one of them.  I don't think I could handle the raw footage.

  10. Weirdest technical issue. I have one set of blu-rays that my blu-ray player will play, but for whatever reason the TV can't pick up the picture.

It is a region free disc, though bought from the UK.  Plays fine on my old blu-ray player, with the same TV...but for whatever reason with the new player, the disc plays (I knew it was working as the surround sound had the audio), but no image went to TV.  I hooked up my projector just to test from the new Blu-ray player, and image showed up.  So some weird missed connection between this new player and the old TV.

The thing that kills me is that it is only this set of blus that seems to have any issue (it is the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Boxset by the way).  The Day of the Doctor disc is especially odd, because the menu won't send picture, but if I click PLAY it suddenly shows the episode...I can suddenly see the Pop-up menu and all, but if I click on any special feature, it is back to Audio Only.  All other discs in the set I can only get Audio.  I'm just not sure why the TV is struggling with this set. I suspected some Region Issue, but the problem seems so odd, and the discs are not Region B, they are supposed to be Region Free...only reason I went for the set.

I assume you did not connect the tv via analog SD to the BD player? The only time I remember having had a similarly weird and specific problem, was when I hooked an old SD 4:3 to my HD BD player via its analog SD output: Most BDs could be played just fine in letterboxed SD, but some BDs, for whatever reason, played Audio only. Have you checked your BD player's settings, in case it even has them - display 4:3 vs. 16:9? Maybe it's set to 4:3 and you never noticed, because when it's connected via HD HDMI, it switches automatically most of the time...?

    4. kenman

      kenman

Yea its HDMI. It is set to 16:9. Everything plays fine, even these discs, I've pinpointed as some kind of weird issue of the TV and the Player for these discs. I am gonna try and download firmware updates for the TV, but I gotta download via a windows computer, which I do not have. I don't even know if it will work.

  11. Welp, coming this July...it's another girl!

  12. Trying everything I can to stop this cold from coming to life in me...we are taking a vacation Monday! Can't get sick now! AHHHH

  13. Been fairly busy lately, trying to get our spare room in order as it won't be spare for much longer. A new little one is on the way!

Thanks!  Right now the mission is to try and take one textured wall in that room, and smooth it out like the rest.  I have no idea what I'm doing...but based on the results so far...I might just pull it off!

    3. Sim

      Sim

LOL, it's the result that counts! :D Have fun!

    4. kenman

I think I succeeded...the wall seems like an actual smooth wall now.  Hopefully it won't look too shabby when painted.

  14. Really bummed a scratch on TNG's Season 7 Disc 5 is causing me to be unable to watch Either Journey's End or Preemptive Strike all the way through. Those are the best episodes on the disc in my opinion! (especially Preemptive Strike).

    1. Sehlat Vie

      Sehlat Vie

Same thing happened to me only a few days ago when I tried to watch S1 disc 2 of my "Battlestar Galactica" set (2003 series).   I was pretty pissed.  Somehow a huge scratch developed on the 2nd disc, which had "33" and 3 other excellent episodes.  I'm hoping I can find a secondhand copy of S1 at a used music/video store someday or online.

    2. kenman

      kenman

I'd take it back, but I think I bought it for a reasonable price on ebay like a year ago. No real recourse with that. I am looking into buying a scratch remover machine, see if that really works.

You can also try to clean it with glass cleaner. It helped me when one of my DS9 DVDs started to skip because of several scratches. Glass cleaner and some soft piece of cloth.

  15. Nothing like getting the worst possibke outcome of an election, a major hit to economy in the horizon and getting your layoff notice at work in the same night!

Not sure if I'll be able to hold down food this morning when I eat breakfast...

  16. Someday. Someday my Tribe will win the World Series.  At least this didn't feel like 1997. We didn't fall apart...injuries to our pitching finally caught up to us...and it is hard not to love that we kept the best team of the year from winning it until extra innings of Game 7.  We fought til the bitter end.  There's always next year. Go Tribe!

    1. Sehlat Vie

      Sehlat Vie

I feel for you, but even though I don't follow baseball?  I gotta say that was pretty cool seeing the Cubs break the 108 year streak...

    2. kenman

      kenman

If they had been playing ANYONE else I would've been rooting for them.  I've always liked the Cubs...but they were playing MY team.  The team I grew up watching...the team I've watched year after year fall short (or worse just stink!).  So I couldn't root for the Cubbies this year. That said...how great is it that the World Series was two teams that have the longest droughts in the Majors?

Ugh...now the current holder of the longest drought without a World Series win is the Tribe...can the world rally behind us for once?

  17. It has been a long month.  Lots of work...lots of stuff to do on my days off.  Just been busy busy busy.  Tonight I hope the Tribe finish it and we win the World Series, both as a lifelong fan of the team and as a TV employee who is exhausted from the work that comes with it.  And boy do I want to get through Election Day (with the correct result of course).  Even with taking a sick day yesterday...I am just beat.

  18. What a team Cleveland has this year! Counted out because of our pitchers being totally roughed up...and yet we haven't lost a playoff game yet!

  19. My favorite team of any sport, the Cleveland Indians, just won their first playoff game since 2007! So happy they can still win even with our pitchers all injured and battered up.  Exciting time to be in Northeast Ohio!

  20. So excited to finally have a day off and see the wife and kid again. Just worked 10 days straight! But hey...my projector and outdoor screen arrived!

Glad to hear you finally had some free time again. :) Enjoy your family, that's really valuable.

  21. Ugh.  Wife got rear-ended, bumper is now gone, insurance is calling the car a loss and just giving the value of the car...and now we are gonna have to go car shopping (which was part of our plan, but it just feels irritating to have it accelerated).  We were hoping to keep my wife's current car for a while as like a spare. That seems like a shot plan now.

    1. prometheus59650

      prometheus59650

That's the worst part: shopping because you have to. It adds pressure you don't need and salesman seem to be able to sense a mile off.

Sorry to hear about it. Hope you'll find a good offer!

      kenman

Yea. I mean luckily we've borrowed a spare car from my parents (which we do anytime we have a car issue, which is why we wanted to keep the car that got hit even after we bought a bigger car), so hopefully we can take our time...just a bummer.

  22. Already ready for Halloween to arrive!  Been watching Tales from the Crypt and horror movies!  Bring on the fall!

I'm ready for Halloween year round.   I LOVE it; it's not only my favorite holiday, but my favorite day of the year period

  23. Taking our daughter on her first camping trip.  Hopefully the looming threat of bad weather blows over!  Talk to you all in a couple days!

  25. Found the Trump draft to see how much longer he had to go...so I can go home.  NOT EVEN CLOSE TO DONE. Long freaking night.

Honestly, I can't imagine a worse hell than that.  I just listen to him on TV and he nearly sends me into a violent rage before I'm forced to shut it off.   I can't imagine if listening to that blowhard were my job (!)   You deserve a medal of valor for that...

    2. kenman

      kenman

Haha. Luckily, I was so exhausted from the last week that I barely could focus in on anything he said.  I just listened for keywords briefly while trying to figure out where he was.  It was a long ass speech. So much so that all live shots in the field (which is my job to manage) were told to pack up, as they were just gonna do a quick wrap-up after his speech ended...and I was then allowed to go home before the speech ended.

All told, by the end of the week I got 6 hours overtime, and $24 extra for missing my lunch break.  Not half bad.  If protestors had gotten out of hand, it could've easily been a longer week...but I have to say our city did us proud.

And now I get one last day, with my shift going back to normal...and then I am scheduled off of the weekend for once!  Time for some family and some Star Trek!
