  1. “The Shape of Water” is a truly remarkable movie.  Arguably Guillermo del Toro’s best work (and yes, that includes “Devil’s Backbone” and maybe even “Pan’s Labyrinth”).

  2. Happy Boxing Day and a belated Merry Christmas!

Happy Boxing Day to you too. :)

  3. Saw "Hamilton" in L.A last night; wow!!  That really lived up to the hype.  An energetic, wildly entertaining and profoundly politically relevant blend of "1776" and "Jesus Christ Superstar."  The songs will be in my head for days.  If I could afford to, I'd see it mulitple times...

I’m not a big fan of that musical genre either, but the songs are exceptionally well done and catchy as hell.  They stay in your head for days...

I've listened to the soundtrack so many times I can sing along with most of the songs in the first act. My signature is from one of the songs in this show.  As far as I'm concerned, it's the best musical ever. Very moving and uplifting.

I love when I hear someone complaining it's too liberal and what their complaining about is a song that directly, word for word quotes a famous document from the early founding fathers. I've read someone complaining about The Schuyer Sisters because they say "We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal." "And when I meet Thomas Jefferson, I'm gonna compel him to include women in the sequel."

Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now. ...We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal.

You can't get a quote more optimistic, like the best of star trek.

I am not throwing away my shot.

Saw it, and enjoyed it but...didn’t quite love it.  Here’s why: https://musingsofamiddleagedgeek.blog/2017/12/16/first-impressions-of-the-last-jedi/  :(

I echo the above: good, not great. Satisfying, but could have been more so with a snip here and an addition there. Lots of snips.

They could’ve snipped a good half hour off of it, as far as I was concerned... Rian Johnson seems to have forgotten he was making a chapter of the SW saga.

  5. Having a phenomenal day with my blog; over 1,500 hits today (so far) and rapidly climbing.  A recent review I did of “The Orville” found its way onto Reddit and HackerNews and just... exploded.  Deeply grateful for the giant bump in readership!

Thanks!   That night it finally closed at 4,050 hits (!).  I’ve never ‘gone viral’ before...

  6. 'If we weren't missing two officers and a third one dead, I'd say someone was playing an elaborate trick or treat on us."

  7. Going for a second serving of “Blade Runner 2049”; amazing movie.

    Already blogged about it.

  8. Over 50 dead in Las Vegas.  I was just there two months ago.  Grieving for all those lost and injured (as well as for their loved ones).  Saddest part is knowing that nothing will change.

Yeah. I've been where the shooting happened.

But, really. It's "too soon" to talk  about guns and we should be singularly on "thoughts and prayers."

I am so sick of this.

  9. Excitement for Discovery building...I half-expect McCoy to ask me if I’d like a tranquilizer. :radekexcited::P

  10. Going to see actor Bryan Cranston LIVE today, at a speaking event downtown.  We’ve had the tickets for over a month.  And, of course, I woke up with a cough and sore throat.   My apologies in advance to any people I may infect tonight...  ;)

  11. Just signed up for CBS-AA; got the commercial free option for $9.99 a month.  Less than the price of a single movie ticket per month.  Not a big deal, really.   Looking forward to the 24th!

Yes, we do. One of my splurges should I ever win a record-setting lottery jackpot is to front CBS the green to do it. All I want is a few advance copies and an executive producer credit.

  12. If anyone’s interested? My blog (available thru link in my signature) has my reports & photos on the Vegas Star Trek con of last week.  Take a look, if you wish...

  13. Warping into Las Vegas for the ST convention.  Will keep in touch via iPad, and I will try to keep my blog updated as well.

  14. My blog (see: link in my signature) has been updated with ALL the rest of my photos/anecdotes of San Diego Comic Con 2017.  I threw it together last night after an exhausting 5 days, so forgive any punctuation or grammatical errors, okay?

  15. If anyone's curious about San Diego Comic Con 2017?  Click onto my blog link in my signature; I have an udpated post on Preview Night and Day One, which includes ALL of my (captioned) pics so far, including Friday (Day 2).

  16. I just learned that Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind is coming back to theatres this September!!  I am SOOO there...

But which one???  I prefer the original cut with the extended mashed potato scene and no "in the ship" scenes.  I'll go see it no matter what.

    2. Sehlat Vie

      Sehlat Vie

I hope it’s the original as well; even as a teenager I wasn’t too fond of the ‘special edition.’   Seeing the interior of the mothership ruined some of the mystery for me.   But yeah, I’ll probably see whatever version they screen...:P

  17. Happy Father’s Day to any and all fathers on Trekcore OS!

Thanks.  Went in for a ‘checkup’; turned out there was something to remove as well.  But, as I said, for the time being all is groovy again.  ;)

Agreed.  I think the screwing began on Nov. 9th of last year.

  21. Nothing wakes me up like my morning covfefe... :giggle:

  22. The Manchester attack.  My thoughts are with everyone who's suffered any connection to this horror.  Can't imagine what the performers themselves are feeling as well (!).

  23. Got a hotel for San Diego Comic Con by the skin of our teeth.  It was REALLY tough this year, even with my wife's pro registration.  We're kind of far from the convention center this time, but at least we're on the shuttle route, so...yay for that.

    1. maneth

      maneth

Well, at least you got it.

    2. Sehlat Vie

      Sehlat Vie

True...but being a lot further from the convention center, we'll have to seriously adjust our experience this year.  But yes, the good news is that we have a hotel!

  24. Going to "Comic Con Revolution" today; a small convention about 20 minutes away.  Not going to cosplay or anything, just going to observe and have fun.  Also hoping to meet STB writer Doug Jung as well...

Just got home; well, Doug Jung was a no-show (waited over an hour and a half...never came), but the cosplayers were great, and I bought a couple of old Marvel Star Wars large soft cover adaptation comic books from the '70s (missing pieces of childhood!) and I met actor David Naughton ("American Werewolf in London"); it was a good time, and I'll go again next year if it returns.  I'll post pics ASAP.   We had a good time!

      maneth

Too bad about Doug Jung, better luck next time.

  25. Ack!  I need to pick up a copy of "Red Turtle"; I didn't realize the blu ray came out on the 2nd (!).   And this weekend the missus and I are going to a little convention (Comic Con Revolution) about 20 minutes away... should be fun.  Hoping to meet writer Doug Jung (Star Trek Beyond) there as well.
