  1. What was the last non-Trek tv show you watched?

Prime Suspect: Tennison (5 episodes out of 6 so far)
  2. What was the last non-Trek tv show you watched?

    The Orville, Vikings
  3. Ursula K. Le Guin, 1929-2018

I greatly enjoyed the Earthsea Chronicles. RIP.
  4. The Orville

I haven't read this thread to avoid spoilers, but I have to say that after four episodes, I'm completely sold. Wonderful, reasonably light-hearted show. Don't get me wrong, I love dark(er) sci-fi shows such as Moore's BSG or even parts of DS9, but I don't want to wallow in misery all the time...
  5. Snowpiercer: the series

Agreed. I liked it too, but I'm not sure there's enough story here for a series, quite frankly.
  6. What non-trek movies have you watched lately?

The Last Jedi. Good but not great. Certainly not a flawless movie, but I'm not panning it either. Entertaining for sure. That said, I enjoyed the standalone Rogue One more than I have enjoyed any SW movies since the original trilogy...
  7. Your Favorite TV Shows of 2017

Mostly rewatches for my husband and me last year, so my list of newish shows isn't going to be very long. (Rewatches: Stargate SG-1, MacGyver (with the kid)) GoT seasons 1-7. I thought it would be too violent for me and refused to watch for years, but when I finally gave in, I was hooked after a few episodes. Can't wait for season 8. Twin Peaks: The Return. A bit uneven and left me unsatisfied at the end, but some parts of it were brilliant. I'm glad I've seen it, but I have no need to see it again. Doctor Who season 10. Great stuff. Bill took a bit getting used to, but I loved her by the end.
  8. Happy New Year!

  9. What non-trek movies have you watched lately?

If you get the chance, take a look.
  10. What non-trek movies have you watched lately?

Ikitie (The Forever Road) (2017). Set in the 1930s, it's based on a true story about how more than 10,000 Americans (mainly Finnish-Americans) went to the Soviet Union during the Depression of the turn of the decade, to build a Socialist workers' paradise, and how thoroughly they were deceived. Most of the adults were executed in the late 1930s and their children taken from them and given to good Communist parents for adoption. It's a depressing story, but one worth telling. Did you know that they played baseball in Soviet Karelia in the 1930s? Most of the dialog is in Finnish, some in Russian and nearly half in English. The movie was shot in eastern Estonia and many of the actors and extras were Estonians. Most of the male leads are Finnish actors virtually unknown elsewhere, but the main female lead is Danish actress Sidse Babett Knudsen, best known internationally for her performance as Theresa Cullen on Westworld.
  11. Now I've seen all new episodes. I must admit that I was left vaguely dissatisfied by the ending. It was mostly a fun journey, but then it just ... stopped. Nothing, literally nothing was resolved. That said, I must admit my respect for Kyle MacLachlan went up several notches, he was really good.
  12. What was the last non-Trek tv show you watched?

DW Christmas Special, Twice Upon a Time. IMDb Great stuff and I loved the understated references to Christmas. I'm really looking forward to next season as well. Vikings, S1E1. Great start.
  13. We're celebrating 100 years of Finnish independence.

I wish my country had a fraction of Finnish common sense right now.

However did I miss this? Congrats and good luck! Parenthood is the greatest adventure offered us ordinary humans. The greatest part of it is, I think, discovering the unique qualities of each individual person and their likes and dislikes. Some children show a marked preference for things very early. How are you doing now that you've been a parent for about six months?
